The discovery: A jewel of the Andes
Salvia haenkei is a shrubby sage native to the mountainous regions of Peru and Bolivia. This plant was discovered and described by the Swiss botanist Édouard André in the 19th century, after observing its unique flora in the Andes. It was not until the 20th century that this sage was widely recognized and cultivated beyond its natural habitat, where it flowers spectacularly.

Position: Choose a location in full sun to light shade. This sage needs warmth to thrive, but will tolerate light shade.

Pruning: In early spring, prune the stems by 2/3 to encourage new growth and maintain a compact shape.
